I was recently saddened to hear about the passing of Dr. Hoover Wong, Associate associate professor emeritus of Chinese Studies at Fuller Theological Seminary. He was a great champion and pioneer of Asian American ministry, and he has left a great legacy for the church.
Dr. Wong wrote about the different models of the Chinese church, which Benjamin Shin has developed and updated.
I didn’t get to take a course from him or sit under his preaching, but he mentored me on several occasions at his home in Pasadena, CA and in Illinois. I’ve written a piece for The SOLA Network, entitled 3 Things I Learned from Hoover Wong.
- The Word of God Must Be My Anchor.
- Lasting Change Takes Time.
- Embrace My Unique Role in God’s Kingdom.
I’m grateful for the impact that Dr. Wong has had on my life and ministry, and I’m looking forward to seeing how God will continue to use his influence to further his kingdom.
